NEW HAVEN, June 18.

Plainfield, June 6. This Day Samuel Shepard, jun. a young Man being at Work in the Field with his Father and two Brothers, a Shower arose, he ran to a Tree at a small Distance for Shelter; when there was a sudden Clap of Thunder preceded by a remarkable Flash of Lightning, which instantly put a Period to his Life, the others coming to the Tree, found him leaning on a Stump, but Stone dead, his Clothes rent and burning on his Body, which they extinguished with Water. An Hole of a considerable Bigness was torn thro' his Hat, where it was supposed that the Lightning first struck, ran down the Side of his Head, Face and Body, which were burnt as it had been with Gun-Powder.
