Full Text

From the Montreal Gazette, 18th inst.

The Honorable Mr. Cass, Secretary of War, of the United States, accompanied by the Honorable Isaac Hill, United States Senator for the State of New Hampshire, and Lieut. Prentiss, of the U. S. Army returned from Quebec yesterday in the St. George Steamer, took up their residence at the Exchange Coffee House, and proceeded to the Falls of Niagara, &c. It is to be regretted that the short stay made by the Secretary of War, as well as the strict privacy which he maintained both here and at Quebec, should have prevented his receiving the attentions (which he seemed so studiously to avoid) of the citizens of both places, who would have felt happy in bestowing upon this distinguished ornament of the present American Cabinet.
