John Blesing, member of the National Supply Unit, Local 12 UAW-CIO was named chairman of the CIO Labor Day Parade and picnic, it was announced by Thomas H. Burke, executive secretary of the Toledo Industrial Union Council.
Expresses Enthusiasm
Mr. Blesing said the first meeting was held Wednesday morning and expressed enthusiasm for making this year's parade bigger and more colorful than last year. He said that the committee pointed out that last year's parade attracted nationwide attention being carried in news reels all over the nation.
It was explained that each Unit or Local will decide its own theme on features of their floats. The chairman reminds the Units that to make arrangements for a band that Milo Barrett should be contacted on Jordan 2760. He is confident that Mr. Barrett can furnish any local or unit with a band if they so desire.
Committee to Meet
Mr. Blesing said that the overall committee will meet again Wednesday evening to map additional plans for the parade and picnic. All units and locals are asked to have representatives at the meeting to be held at TIUC at 611 Huron St.
It is important for attendance Mr. Blesing said because each Unit will be asked to make a donation to a pool to make necessary purchases for the picnic. To date he pointed out that Willys-Overland Unit has agreed to take care of bingo prizes and to furnish ice cream.
National Supply and Mather Spring combined to buy the pop, he added.
