An occurrence of rather a serious nature took place on Monday, at the corner of Oliver and Chatham streets, where this great natural curiosity was deposited for exhibition. A boy, we understand, was in the act of attempting to indulge his curiosity by looking through an aperture in the building, in order to have a view of the animal, when some person on the inside, interested in the establishment, inserted the blade of an opened penknife, or some other sharp-pointed instrument in the crevice through which the boy was looking, which perforated one of his eyes, and, it is supposed, will cause the entire loss of it. A number of persons were soon collected in consequence of the occurrence, who immediately proceeded to take vengeance on the Vampire and his keepers, by quickly demolishing the building in which he was enclosed, and inflicting on him as much injury as they were capable of. The man who committed the outrage on the boy, was taken into custody.
