JERSEY CITY, N. J.—Not long ago, Sec. of Labor Frances Perkins said that efforts to stop shipments of war materials to the Italo-Ethiopian conflict zone should be encouraged. Eight persons took the advice seriously, and helped a striking crew picket the S. S. Spero at Jersey City, N.J. They were given suspended sentences for being "disorderly persons" and 'loitering and assembling.' Among them were blueblood church members of colonial lineage. The Spero was recently taken off coastwise service and loaded with scrap iron bound for Genoa, Italy.
