Nels Anderson, Deputy U. S. Marshall from Bethel enroute to Fairbanks with a prisoner remained overnight in Takotna, leaving early Tuesday morning. Pilot Nat Brown flew the party from Paimut and on to Fairbanks.
The prisoner, Goolka Behn, a native from Paimut on the Yukon is accused of killing his wife. Mr. Anderson was ordered over from Bethel to investigate the case.
Behn's story is that to celebrate Christmas a friend of his wife brought liquor to the home and all drank freely. The wife became intoxicated and decided to leave taking with her an adopted child. Behn following overtook her on the river bank, near an overturned boat. In the struggle that followed he struck the woman causing her to fall against the boat strike her head and become unconscious. Taking the child Behn went to a neighbors, a white man, who thinking that it was nothing but a drunken squabble persuaded Behn, who was very drunk, to go to sleep.
In the morning the woman was found dead beside the boat, having frozen to death while unconscious.
