Jet Interceptor Missing At Anchorage

ANCHORAGE, (AP) — Airborne searchers were combing Cook Inlet off Anchorage for signs of a jet fighter-interceptor missing since early today after failing to return from a night flying mission.

The Convair F 102A Delta Dagger took off from Elmendorf Air Force Base with two other jets last night. It was last seen in the vicinity of the base about 20 minutes later.

The Air Force identified the pilot of the missing jet as 1st Lt. Carl E. Sandmeter, 27, Detroit. His wife and two children live at Elmendorf.
