Senator Charles C. Diggs and Attorney Joseph A. Craigen made a tour of several up state cities over the week-end in behalf of the candidacy of Franklin D. Roosevelt for president. Murray D. Van Wagoner for governor, and the other Democratic candidates. They visited the cities of Benton Harbor, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Jackson and Vicksburg, at which latter town Senator Diggs addressed an entirely white audience. Inspection of the political work being done for the candidates in the Counties of Cass, Berrien and Kalamazoo was also made. At the Benton Harbor meeting, Rev. E. B. Williams, formerly of Benton Harbor and now of Battle Creek participated as one of the speakers. On Saturday, Diggs and Craigen were joined by Rev. G. Graime of Idlewild and Justice of Peace White of Lake County. Reports from the Upper Peninsula by these two gentlemen indicate a favorable vote for the Democratic ticket. On Sunday, the Negro ministers of Kalamazoo opened the doors of their churches so that the entourage could deliver lectures from their pulpits. Senator Diggs spoke at the First Baptist church in Kalamazoo. Attorney Craigen spoke at the Second Baptist church, and the Rev. Mr Graime spoke at the AME church, which he formerly pastored. Negro leaders in these various cities are actively engaged in the support of the Democratic ticket. Everywhere one sees signs of enthusiasm and campaigning for the Democratic Party. Many persons motored from adjoining towns and outlying districts to hear speeches about the Democratic ticket. The reception was an enthusiastic one and Senator Diggs believes the eagerness with which the people gathered and assimilated the speeches indicate a Democratic victory on Nov. 5.
