The following communication, from our friend Roger Williams, goes on to say, that the Committee of Arrangements of which body he was a member, are very much indebted to the Marshals of the day for their gentlemanly deportment.
The celebration of the day set apart in this town, in honour of the characters of the illustrious deceased John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, former Presidents of the United States, was splendid and solemn. The good order and solemnity observed on the occasion evinced that all present fully felt the great loss the nation has sustained. In but one instance was the like ever witnessed in our streets. Great and deserved credit is due from the citizens of Providence, to the Marshals of the day for their attention to the performance of the many arduous duties assigned them, which were carried into effect with great punctuality and precision.
ROGER WILLIAMS.
