RICHMOND, Va. (ANP)- In a report to Gov. William M. Tuck, a legislative commission indicated a "deplorable ignorance" of Virginia history among college freshmen in nine colleges in the state.
The report was the result of a test on Virginia history and government given to 1344 college freshmen. The commission stated that almost no Virginia history and government are taught in the schools. This is contrary to state laws.
Continuing its report, the group declared that the more than 80 years since the civil war ended are practically ignored.
The State Department of Education is revising its curriculum to meet the objections.
