Verdict Expected in Weeks Trial Tonight;
Daughter Takes Stand
A verdict in the case of Samuel T. Weeks, charged with the murder of his wife, is expected to be returned by midnight tonight. The case will go to the jury during the afternoon.

Following a night session of the court last night the defense completed its testimony this morning at 10 o'clock and the arguments began.

O.A. Cargill, assistant county attorney, made a strong opening argument for the state and was followed by J.S. Estes Sr., who made the opening statement for the defense. Ned Looney, assistant county attorney, will close for the state and I.W. Burns, attorney for the defense, will close for Weeks.

Rebuttal evidence introduced by the state was for the purpose of proving illicit love existed between Weeks and Mrs. Floyd Dickson, whose husband Weeks is also charged with murdering.

Leo B. White, evidence man for the county attorney, testified he was under a bed in the county jail when Weeks is said to have told Mrs. Dickson he had always loved her and proposed marriage. White corroborated the testimony of Mrs. Dickson which Weeks yesterday denied on the stand.

The last witnesses for the defense were for the most part alienists and experts on the mind, who testified that symptoms in Weeks' actions indicated temporary insanity at the time of the shooting. Doctors were introduced by the state to disprove the contention of temporary insanity.

Weeks' pretty little 5 year-old daughter was placed on the stand by the defense. Her testimony was objected to as incompetent by the state and the objection was sustained after a few questions were asked the girl.

The attorneys for the state asked

the following questions of the little girl:

Q. Do you know the meaning of an oath?

A. No.

Q. Do you know the meaning of truth?

A. Yes.

Q. Why do you know what truth is?

A. Because I will go to hell if I don't tell the truth.

“I know what happened that night in the automobile” were the last words the little girl said on the witness stand.

She referred to the night before the shooting when Weeks' wife and Floyd Dickson are said to have been out and to have had the little girl with them. Weeks says his wife often took the girl with her when she met men and he alleges this helped to make him temporarily insane.

Weeks' mother and father and the little girl were sitting beside him during the hearing this morning. Weeks appeared more confident than yesterday and laughed once when his daughter came running up to him and asked him to kiss her.
