Man So Declared to Be by a Woman Doctor After Careful Comparison.
Dr. Helen Bradford Thompson Studies the Minds of the Two Sexes and Reaches Interesting Conclusions.
"Men are more emotional than women. Men are superior to women in inventiveness and physical strength. Women excel in memory, and the two sexes are equal in general information."
These are some of the conclusions reached by Dr. Helen Bradford Thompson, after a series of experiments on 25 men and 25 women conducted while she was at the University of Chicago, in the years 1898-1900.
Dr. Thompson, who is now director of the psychological laboratory at Mount Holyoke college, has published the results of her researches in a pamphlet just issued from the University of Chicago press.
Men's superior strength of mind, Dr. Thompson says, is not due to a sex difference, but to the influence of society as now organized, boys being taught to be independent while girls are taught obedience.
Miss Thompson was formerly an Englewood high school girl. She was graduated from the University of Chicago in 1900.
