Nolan PTA Hears Interesting Talk By Mrs. Lawson

An interesting and informative talk by Mrs. J. Brooks Lawson, of Williamson, featured the meeting of the Nolan Parent-Teachers association last Thursday evening at the Nolan graded school.

Mrs. Lawson was introduced by Mrs. John Patrich, program chairman, and her subject was "Advantages of the P.T.A. to Parents and Teachers." She stressed the four types of education and urged every parent to join the PTA because their ideas and help are badly needed.

During the seating of members, Miss Amy Stepp played soft music and later on the program sang "Vilia" from the "Merry Widow", playing her own piano accompaniment.

The business session was in charge of Mrs. C. L. Sample, vice president. Reports were submitted by the secretary and the treasurer. Homer Stepp, principal of the school, reported on the success of the chicken dinner and Hallowe'en carnival held last month. Additional playground equipment and a flag staff is to be purchased with the proceeds from the two events, it was stated.

Mr. Stepp also stated that plans are being made for the school's annual Christmas program. Parents are being asked to help make the costumes for the children.

Attendance prize was awarded to Miss Stepp's third grade room.

After the program, a delectable salad plate was served to each one present in the school lunch room. Mrs. Wallace Reed, chairman, and members of her refreshment committee served.

Visitors in addition to Mrs. Lawson, the speaker, included Mrs. W. Earl Davis and Mrs. Joe Vago.

Next meeting will be held Thursday afternoon, December 2, at 3 o'clock.
