Full Text

Paris, Oct. 19. The last Advices from Genoa are dated the 18th Instant, and import, that they had received Letters from Bastia of the 7th, advising that the Marquis de Cursay left that Place the 27th of last Month, and arrived at Corte the 4th Instant; and that his Excellency was so well satisfied with the Docility he found in the Inhabitants, that he had restored the Arms to many in the Piece of Niolo, whom he lately thought fit to disarm. However, lest they should not always continue in this Humour, the Marquis had distributed two Detachments of French Troops in their old Quarters beyond the Mountains, and reckoned to return to Bastia the Beginning of next Month. The Genoese Officers look with an evil Eye on these good Dispositions of the Corsicans, and Success of the French Commandant, because they had rather see the French Troops withdrawn from the Island, as they consult their own private Interest more than that of their Country.
