This delightful retreat has during the whole season been in successful operation. Col. Dix, the enterprising proprietor, took advantage of the recess to thoroughly improve the premises. The bathing arrangements are complete, affording comfort and perfect safety to all. The tables literally "groan" under the daily varieties of fish, fowl and meats, to say nothing of the luxuries carefully prepared by the estimable lady of the Pavilion—altogether, such as to elicit commendation from the most fastidious epicure. At present we have about 280 guests, amongst whom are Commodore Shubrick, U. S. N., and family; Dr. Clymer, U. S. A.; Dr. Edwards, U. S. A.; General Gonzales, of Cuba: Hon. Judge Crawford and family, J. M. Carlisle, Esq., and family, Dr. Duhamel and family, William B. Todd and family, William A. Bradley, Esq., and family, and Col. J. H. Riley, all from Washington; Mr. Megallon, of the Spanish legation, and family, and Professor Gibson, of the University of Pennsylvania. Maryland and Virginia are also well represented, with Col. Jennifer and Col. Dedrick at the head.
