Full Text

Extract of a Letter from Point-Levee, Sept. 4.

"Our Batteries are still playing upon the City of Quebec, and it seems to be beat to Pieces. General Murray hath been 45 Miles above the Town, and has destroyed a considerable Magazine, and a vast Quantity of Cattle of the Enemy's; and we have now a Reinforcement gone above, both of Shipping and Troops, which will enable them to destroy all their Shipping and Settlements: so that upon the whole we shall leave them in very miserable Circumstances, and doubt not but should the War continue another Year, we Shall make an easy Conquest.--Yesterday General Wolfe finished decamping on Montmorancy, and is now encamped on Point Levee.

Sept. 4.

Since I finished my Letter we have News from General Amherst: And as it is said he is within a Week's March of us, it hath diffused a universal Joy throughout the whole Camp; scarce any doubting but that we shall make a finishing Stroke this Season."
