The Conference was held at the thriving little town of Summerfield, in Claiborne parish, La. The town is situated in the midst of an influential and prosperous community, composed of some of the best citizens in the parish. The lands are fertile and crops abundant.
Great harmony prevailed with these good citizens--of all denominations, and some who belong to no denomination --as they united in one noble band of brotherhood to support the Conference.
And well was the pleasant task performed.
Their doors were opened in the town and throughout the community for miles around to receive the members of Conference and the vast congregation of visitors, while their genial hearts appeared to swell with joy as they smiled a full welcome to all who came. Extended tables were spread in the grove each day loaded with the very best that the country could afford and in such profusion that none were allowed to go away dissatisfied.
The Conference has never received a more cordial welcome, nor better treatment than was afforded by the citizens of Summerfield and community. This too, is the home of our old and well tried brother and former member of this Conference--Stephen C. Kennedy--who has been a life-long Methodist Protestant: strong in the defence of her ministers, doctrine and polity. His genial face cheered and gladdened our hearts, while his new and commodious dwelling--like those of many other citizens--stood open night and day to shelter the people of God.
WM. F. WALLACE.
