Dogs.—Our good friends of Philadelphia appear to be in some little stir about their Dog Laws—Ditto, amongst the interested in our town. On the subject the National Gazette good humouredly remarks:

A correspondent complains of partiality in the execution of the Dog law. He avers that the best pointers are seized, while thousands of ill-looking and good-for-nothing dogs, that know no owners, are suffered to run at large unmolested. The canine lazaroni are the privileged. Good for nothingness has its advantages with quadrupeds as well as bipeds. "Knowing no owner" however, an honorable distinction both for man and beast. To walk in the leading-strings of a master is a pitiable condition, even when the dog seems to guide. A solemn appeal is made by our correspondent to the high constables against the "gentlemen dog-killers," who either disdain or fear to handle the outlying mangy curs. We feel but little compassion for any of the canine race, and think that the epithet dog days is well connected with the period of the hottest weather—the most odious and dangerous. In the canine's man and horse are most to be pitied. We recommend impartiality to the gentlemen dog-killers, and pray them to fall alike upon all such page's enumeration— a Mastiff, greyhound, spaniel, brache or lurch, or bob-tail like, or trundle-tail."
