A GAIN OF FORTY-TWO over Four Years Ago.
Who says now that the Republicans of Mineral Point are dead? They have been declared by some outside as such, but the Democrats of this place regard them as the liveliest dead fellows they have ever encountered on the political battle field. It was a common claim of the Democrats that they would carry the city by from twenty-five to thirty-five, and in their accustomed style of bluster wanted to bet to that effect. But the Republicans kept right along in their unpretentious style, yet no grass grew under their feet. No doubt the several able speeches given here for the party during the campaign bore good fruit, but to the vigilance of the Harrison and Morton club is due the bulk of praise. It is doubted if in any city or town in the state the Republicans can bring proof of more effective work than the Republicans of Mineral Point, assisted by the patriotic color wearers of the ladies' Carrie Harrison club.
