Work To Be Sped Despite Fact That Bids Exceed Allotments Set
Extension of the city sewer system to Sunset Park and East Wilmington will be accomplished despite the fact that bids on the material far exceed the city's $325,000 allotment for the project, City Engineer J. A. Loughlin declared yesterday.
The bids, opened by the city council at a special session yesterday morning, ranged from $601,850 to $813,265.
Since the budget provides for only $325,000, the plans for the sewer extension will be revised to allow the major part of the project to be carried on until such time as additional funds are available, Loughlin said after conferring with the council.
The project can be curtailed without any new bids being required since the bids opened yesterday were submitted on a unit basis rather than on the basis of an overall contract, Loughlin explained. This means, he pointed out, that the most important items re-
