PAID IN CORN
PROGRAM
Final payments to farmers who earned them by taking part in the 1961 feed grain program for corn will be made soon after October 2. Fred Clark, chairman of the county ASC committee, said this week.
Advance payments were made to many producers last spring at the time they signified their intention to participate in the program by reducing corn acreages. Final payments will be made on the basis of the actual participation in the program.
Clark estimated that total payments to Roosevelt county farmers for diverting corn acreage to soil conserving uses under the 1961 program will be approximately $25,846.62. Advance payments totaled $7,035.74. Payments are made in the form of certificates which may be exchanged for the cash equivalent of the grain.
Chairman Clark emphasized that compliance with the program is contingent upon proper protection, throughout 1961, of acreage designated as retired from corn production. This acreage must also be protected from grazing for the remainder of 1961 and no crop may be harvested from it. A violation of program provisions could result in a tremendous loss to the producer.
Farmer operators participating in the 1961 program are asked to visit the county office at their convenience after October 5 to sign their final payment applications.
