Full Text
Eli Duvall has forwarded to the Editor of the Rockville American, the following statement relative to the circumstance of his shooting a negro, which we published on the 26th ult: "The negro, a hired servant, entered Duvall's house after dark, with his sleeves rolled up, and with much insolence, seized hold of a cane which Duvall held in his hand, and attempted to wrest it from him; a scuffle ensued, in which the negro proved the strongest. Duvall then took his gun and shot him in the hip. He has recovered sufficiently to labour and is now at work in the field." Such provocation is calculated materially to change the character of the transaction before spoken of.—Morn. Chron.
