By accounts from Calcutta, so early as in August last, it appears, that Jamalabad was evacuated on the 26th of June, and the English then took possession of that post. Several of the garrison were taken prisoners in their attempts to escape, and 49 had been sentenced to death at Mangalore, on the Malabar coast.— Nine have been hung by the English as deserters. These insurgents were troublesome near Seringapatam in July. Doondia, their Chief, was said to have with him 15,000 horse, 4000 foot, besides other forces in separate commands. An entire change has since been produced by the success of the English arms in this country.
