JASPER COUNTY HAS LIMESTONE IN ABUNDANCE

Company Buys Option And May begin Extensive Developments

Mr. S. Sokloshe, who is employed by a company which has been organized for the development of the lime rock deposits of South Mississippi, is in Laurel, on business connected with the organization.

The deposit of lime stone extends from a point three miles north of Bay Springs, to beyond Silverina, in Smith County, which area contains an almost unexhaustible supply of rock, which after thorough tests has been shown to produce a fine quality of cement. The company has purchased the rights of about four thousand acres of land, and plans are fast being consummated for development of the property, which will include not only a cement plant but a plant for the manufacture of fire brick.

The deposit has been investigated by numbers of parties in recent years, the first exploitation having been organized by Governor Longino company. The holdings of the Longino company, it is said, have passed to this new corporation, which is going ahead with its development very rapidly.

The stone is splendid for building purposes, and much of it may be used for the revetment work on the Mississippi. It is said to be probable that a railway will be built to Natchez in order to use it for this purpose.
