"INDIFFERENCE"
In the parable of the Great Supper, as recorded in Luke 14:15-24, Jesus sets forth how indifferent many people are to the things that concern their souls. He meant it especially for the Jews, who refused to accept Him as their Saviour; but the parable was spoken for the people of all time, therefore, also for us.
Paul tells us that each one should work out his salvation with fear and trembling; that is, he should put forth every effort to hold fast to Jesus Christ, lest he lose his faith and so lose his salvation.
We should consider well that this indifference to the things of the soul is a dangerous state of heart. It is one of the ways the devil has of robbing Christians of their faith and destroying their souls.
Peter tells us that each one is to use diligence to make his calling and election sure. God has called us all just as the men in the parable were invited to the supper, but unless we heed the call and follow it through life we shall not be saved in the end. You should also remember that now is the day of grace. Now, as the prophet Isaiah says, the Lord may be found. Tomorrow may be too late. A hundred things may happen tomorrow that might prevent you from calling upon the name of the Lord. Remember too, that the person who is indifferent and asleep is spiritually dead. For so cries the apostle, Awake, thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead. Have a care, therefore, for your soul; yes, make that your chief concern in life. You will have plenty of time and strength left for other things. Did not Jesus say, Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all other things will be added unto you?
