His 20 Years' Occupancy of Land Held to Be as Good as a Deed.
Michigan City, Ind., June 19.—After a trial lasting three weeks a jury of the Superior Court returned a verdict in favor of Mrs. Drusille Carr of Lake County, Ind., against Mrs. Rose Hitt, Arza Hitt, W. W. Hall and Mrs. Mary B. Mathews, giving Mrs. Carr title to 157 acres of land near Gary, Ind., worth $235,500, by virtue of adverse possession for more than twenty years.
The defendants claimed the property by title from the Government in 1838 and alleged that they had paid all taxes.
Mrs. Carr had done no act indicating ownership other than to occupy intermittently in a bungalow, the land as a squatter near the Lake Michigan shore.
