WHITES NEGROES RIOT IN BROOKLYN SCHOOL CAFETERIA

Talmadge Tells Georgians That There'll Be No Mixing Of Races

A fight between a white boy and a negro boy produced a riot in a high school cafeteria in Brooklyn, New York.

This fight occurred on January 16, 1951, and involved 1200 boys and girls in a riot that overturned tables and broke up the crockery.

A teacher who attempted to restore peace was punched in the eye.

The riot took place in the Franklin K. Lane High School Cafeteria, and most of the 1200 boys and girls were exchanging blows.

The Franklin K. Lane High School is a mixed school for both negroes and whites and is located in the heart of Brooklyn.

Of all of the places in the world where there should be no race riots, it is the City of Brooklyn.

This is true because out of Brooklyn has come the loudest clamor for the mixing and mingling of the white and negro races in all phases of American life.

And yet even in Brooklyn we find that the two races cannot attend the same schools and eat in the same cafeterias without a race riot and without a battle between the negroes and the whites.

What is happening in this mixed school in Brooklyn is just a tiny sample of what would happen in Georgia and in the South if the white and negro races are ever mixed in the same schools.

Most of the southern papers failed to carry this story, although it appeared on the Associated Press wires. Evidently they attached no significance to it, and so far as we have been able to determine only one or two daily papers in Georgia carried the story.

The papers which did carry the story hid it away in small type and only carried a small portion.

Another dispute among the students from this school broke out later in the day and 25 negro boys and white boys and girls fought on a subway train. A negro patrolwoman employed by the subway line was punched and kicked when she tried to intervene.

The Brooklyn police began to round up a number of students for questioning.

Police said there had been trouble at the school since the Friday before this happened on Tuesday when a white boy and a negro boy had a dispute.

Slowly and gradually the people of this nation will learn that the white and black races can live together in a state of peace and harmony only in a state of segregation.

Our forefathers in the South who designed the pattern of segregation for the white and negro races knew the negro problem and knew that it was the only pattern under which the two races could live together in a state of peace and harmony.

When they mix the white and negro races in the schools of the South there will be riots and more riots and there will be a complete breakdown of the public school system in America. It is about time the professional reformers, the wild-eyed radicals and the negroes learn a few facts of life and learn that only under the pattern of segregation can any of us live in peace and harmony.

The Governor of Georgia has stated that there are not enough soldiers, sailors and marines in the United States to force the white and negro children in Georgia to go to school together.

The Governor of Georgia knows the situation and has the courage to tell the truth.

Most of the pussy-footing politicians and office-holders and educators in the South are not honest enough and do not have the courage to speak out and say the truth.

The sooner these pussy-footing politicians and educators acquire some back-bone and some courage and say what they honestly think the sooner this problem will be solved on a basis of sanity.
