Frightful Death - On Monday, the 31st of December, Martha, aged 5 years, daughter of Mr. H. Ram Casn, of Burton, with a younger sister, went into the barn yard, and having taken a strap she fastened it around the neck of a pet calf and also around her own. Her younger sister becoming afraid, returned to the house, to warn her parents, and having done so again went to the yard. She soon returned to the house, saying that "Martha was lying on the ground and would not speak to her." Upon going to the yard to solve the mysterious story of the little girl, Martha was found dead, having been choked to death by the strap about her neck.
