Affray at Milledgeville, Georgia. - A serious affray occurred yesterday, between Major Wood, President of the Senate, and Dr. Daniell, Senator from Chatham - the particulars of which have been related to us as follows: - During the debate on the Savannah and Macon Rail Road, Major Wood made a highly insulting and seemingly unprovoked personal attack on Dr. D. stating as his reasons for doing so, that the latter had, during the debate on the Convention bill, some days before, made a disrespectful attack on himself, while in the chair, in relation to his conduct as a member of the Convention, and that he seized upon that occasion to resent it. [The remark made by Dr. D. on that occasion, we understand, was in substance that the majority of the Convention, generally, in adopting a party arrangement by which the majority of the people were to be placed under the control of the minority, were either knaves or dupes, and each one might determine for himself to which class he belonged.) Major Wood, said in substance, we understand, that the conduct of the Senator from Chatham, was beneath the dignity of a gentleman, and he himself no gentleman, or something of that kind, and that he was ready to defend with his arm outside of that house, what he said in it. Dr. D. replied simply that he would not trouble that body with his personal affairs; and when the Senate adjourned, on arriving outside the State House, resented it by striking Major W. across the face with a paper he held in his hand. Major W. instantly stabbed at him with a knife held open at the time, but was prevented from doing more than merely cutting through the clothes on his breast, by his catching hold of his hand. Dr. Daniell then seized a stick from a gentleman who was attempting to hold him, and struck Major Wood a severe blow on the side of the head; after which they were separated.
