We learn from an authentic source, that, in the midst of a recent electioneering harangue, in which religion and blasphemy were most strangely blended, Major -a-, one of General Jackson's "choice spirits" in a neighboring county, addressed his astonished hearers in the following strain:-

"I can prove by Scripture--the Major lisps--that Gen. Jackson ought to be elected President. David--as you all know, was a man after God's own heart; and received his appointment directly from Heaven. Well, Gen Jackson is an exact follower of David and has imitated him in the leading events of his life. For instance--David fought a duel with Goliath, and killed him; so did Gen Jackson fight a duel with, and kill, Mr. Dickinson. David carried off Uriah's wife, and married her; so did Gen. Jackson with the wife of Lewis Robards David fought a number of battles with the Philistines, and overcame them; Gen. Jackson did the same with the Indians. David was engaged in bloody wars with the surrounding nations; so will Gen. Jackson after he shall be elected. for there is a burning Star now rising in the East which foretells that war and desolation are nigh."

We regret that it is not in our power to give the whole of this delectable sermon, for the special benefit of our Jackson friends in this quarter. We trust, however, that the above extract will furnish them with a new supply of reasons for the election of the General--the old stock having become exhausted from constant use--and when these shall have likewise been worn thread-bare, we may perhaps have it in our power to accommodate them with a fresh assortment from the same manufactory.
