The Girl Scouts of the USA will be 44 years old on March 12. We in the Atlanta Council hope to make March 11-17 the biggest Girl Scout Week in our history. Whether we do or not depends on each of us doing our part--girls, leaders, committees and board of directors.
The big Council birthday celebration was the annual Juliette Low World Friendship Ingathering at the Fox Theatre, March 10. This is the one time each year that we all get together. The theme was that of the National Council for 1956--"Believe, Belong, Build."
Our Council is proud that an increasing number of our girls and adults have been honored by awards for international opportunities from the World Friendship Fund. This is our opportunity to continue making world friendship possible. It is the
Girl Scout way of working for peace. Camp Promotion Tea
The Camp Committee of District V will sponsor a Camp Promotion Tea at the Phyllis Wheatley YWCA, Sunday, March 18, from 4-6 p. m.
Mrs A. F. Fisher is Chairman.
COOKIE SALE
Miss Jessie Andrews, Cookie Chairman from District V, has reported that the cookie sale was a success.
Forty-five troops have sold Girl Scout cookies this year. The troops selling the largest number of cookies and made reports before the March deadline are as follows:
Miss Lena Dean, sponsored by Grady Homes, was the top saleslady unassisted by other leadership;
Mesdames L. J. Pullum, Evelyn Hood, A. Hammonds, sponsored by C. W. Hill School: Mesdames E. C McCoy and Geraldine Greer, sponsored by Nathan B Forrest School;
Mesdames L. F. Kaigler, Frankie Barnett and Doris Moore sponsored by E. A. Ware School and Mesdames Lucille Neely and E. F. Elkins sponsored by English Avenue School.
Miss Andrews further stated that many of the troops selling smaller amounts of cookies made full reports and that the organization is equally as proud of their participation.
Troops receive a bonus on the amount of cookies sold which is used for the troop treasury that is the reason the Brownies, Intermediates and Senior Girl Scouts are grateful to the public for its support of the major sale of the year.
