A letter from Gen. Sheridan's army, published in the N. Y. Tribune, says: "The order of General Sheridan to burn Rebel property for a circuit of five miles from the place where Lieut. Meigs and his orderly were killed included Tuckardsville, Bridgewater and Dayton. Some houses were burned, but the order was modified so as to save the dwellings. But the general devastation of the country has obliged the people to remove. It is understood that there has been a pretty general burning of barns and subsistence all the way from Harrisonburg."
