Regular Troops on Scene Today to Prevent Further Serious Outbreak
Vienna, Austria, March 26.—(P)—Regular troops were on the scene today to prevent further serious rioting between the socialist defense league and the Bourgeoise home defense force at Feldkirchen, Carinthia. Three men were shot and several dozen stabbed in a clash Friday.
Efforts were made by the troops to keep the two factions apart and to prevent reinforcements from reaching either side.
The conservative papers laid the blame for the clash at the door of the home defense force. They claimed that the force invaded a socialist meeting and tried to expel speakers who came from out of town.
The socialists resisted and the home defense force resorted to violence.
The lights in the hall were put out. The hall, which was the largest in Feldkirchen, was wrecked. The fighting soon spread to the street. Both sides summoned reinforcements by telephone. When these arrived, the rioting assumed such threatening proportions that the gendarmes were unable to suppress it. The nose of the mayor of Feldkirchen was broken. Twenty-three persons were so seriously hurt that they were removed to hospitals.
After the rioting had continued for three hours, regular troops arrived and scattered the combatants.
