Event Details
A great machine representing a fortress was built on the sea at Chiaia, stocked with food and live animals. Kingdom's gallies, Malta's gallies, and St. Philip man-of-war formed a line of battle. King, Queen, and court attended from a throne. Festival began with gallies firing apples, lemons, granadoes, and fireworks at the fortress. 60 barks with 1200 men in shirts, trowsers, and red caps advanced; men scaled and plundered the fortress using tables and steps, while a mine was sprung and fireworks thrown. Common practice is to abandon machines to the people, but caution taken due to water setting and crowd.
