Striking Longshoremen and the Police.

Norfolk, August 7. - The strike of the longshoremen assumed threatening proportions this morning. The men employed by the White Star Company have of late been paid fifteen dollars a week, and are engaged by the company. The strikers determined on Saturday that they would put a stop to this system, and made the men, about 150, turn out and join them in the strike. About 60 strikers assembled this morning by six o'clock, outside the White Star dock, but were dispersed by the police.
