VIRGINIA BANKS.

"Rumour has excited fears for the safety of the Virginia Banks. There is not the smallest ground for any such fears. We copy a paragraph from the Enquirer which explains the value of some late transactions in the Farmers Bank of Richmond, Virginia, of a singular character, which no doubt gave rise to the rumour that the Virginia Banks had stopped payment. It is not in Virginia that the Banks are likely to defraud the community. No many sacrifices have been made in that state to support the character and credit of those institutions for any such thing to happen. It is not in Virginia that private interest and personal considerations predominate over integrity and public duty."

[The above article is from the Kentucky Reporter of the 6th.—It is the first time we have heard "the rumour that our Banks had stopped payment." We now add, in confirmation of the Reporter's liberal statement, that there is not the slightest danger of any such event.]
