For The Sake Of Your Children
Vote Wet
On August 26th, which will be next Tuesday the voters of Mississippi have the responsibility of going to the polls to cast their Votes. We urge all qualified Negro Voters of the state to go to the polls on that day and fulfill the highest responsibility of American Citizenship which is that of Voting.
All issues that come up in an American election is important, and included among the issues is the election of the best candidates, in the mind of the voter, to fill the public offices which they seek. Of the greatest importance in this election however, is the Wet and Dry Issue, under which the voters will determine whether or not the sale of whiskey will be legal in the state or whether or not it will continue to be sold by bootleggers, and in such joints where it is being sold today in quantities far out of proportion to the state population.
We have heard the cry, For the sake of your children vote dry, but we say to the Negro Voters of the state, For the SAKE OF YOUR CHILDREN VOTE WET.
We say to the Negro voters for the sake of their children vote wet for these two reasons. Of first importance is the reason that under the present condition, Negro boys and girls, of any and all ages can buy whiskey now anywhere it is being sold, and no questions asked. With whiskey being sold legally some regulations would be passed keeping young kids out of places where whiskey is sold. Then there is the fact that the sale of whiskey legally in the state would bring into the state treasury millions of dollars from taxes, which would make it no longer possible for the legislature to say that the money is not available for the equalization of educational opportunities in the state.
Negro Voters of Mississippi, think on these two things and go to the polls on August 26 and vote "WET" for the Sake of your Children.
