District Court.

The jury in the case against Sam Gillpin charged with aggravated assault on John Cayce, returned a verdict this morning assessing the punishment at confinement for two years in the penitentiary.

Ernest Hoff, charged with aggravated assault on a Pfannestiel, was acquitted.

The court then began the trial of James Edley, colored, charged with theft of a watch, and during a pause in the proceedings against this prisoner, empanelled a jury and took a large number of the gaming cases under advisement, all of whom pleaded guilty and were fined $25 and costs each.

District Attorney Paschal is ill and not able to attend court.
