At a recent term of our chancery court a case of this sort was under consideration, and the Chancellor very properly decided in favor of the woman's claim to the man's property who had openly lived with her as man and wife. We are heartily glad that the negro women have taken hold of this matter and earnestly hope that every one of them who has lived for years in the capacity of wives with white men, will claim such rights before the courts, as they have a right to do, and thus purge society of men claiming respectability and force them to their proper level, as open violators of public morals—notorious miscegenationists. If there are any more such cases in Jefferson county the grand jury will perjure itself if it does not purge them out from amongst decent people, and, if possible, into the penitentiary.
