Full Text
In respect to publick affairs, we cannot but be of the opinion that although many things are adverse to America, yet the tide is turning in her favour, by the idea of raising taxes on your side daily decreasing here amongst all parties; and we think that no Minister will again attempt the taxing you, as we believe they are heartily sick of the late act, and want only to save the honour of Parliament to get rid of it. The most sanguine of their friends agree that it is improper and uncommercial, and that had a petition come over from your merchants, on the principle of inexpediency, instead of that from your Assembly, denying the right, it would have been ere now repealed. The Ministry at the same time declare they will oppose a repeal, as long as America shall think that their threats are to oblige a compliance; however, we hope a little patience will bring it about, every thing being done that is in the power of your friends here to effect it, and as speedy as the nature of the case will admit.
