Full Text
Our May meeting for the choice of Representatives was held yesterday; and after the warmest contest that I ever knew in this place, the Federal Republican Ticket prevailed. The highest number on the Federal side was 135; lowest on the democratic 127; lowest Federal 133; highest democratic 130. JEREMIAH BAILEY, Esq. and Maj. ROBERT Elwell, are elected. There was a number absent on the Federal side that are usually at home; and about six, mostly Federal, taken from the list, that had not been here one year. Considering the great influence (an influence which ought to be on the other side) of Messrs. Wood and Carleton, (the democratic candidates,) and the exertions that were made, I think we have done well and hope some other towns in this quarter will do so likewise.
