CUMBERLAND, July 17—Special meetings of the general membership will be held Wednesday, July 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, July 22 at 10 a.m. to ratify the contract with the Celanese Corp. of America, says Pres. Walter R. Walters of Local 1874. Actual signing will take place Thursday, July 22.
The new contract, which contains many important concessions to the union, is already in operation. It has been introduced gradually, beginning with the directive of the War Labor Board handed down March 24. Other clauses became operative as interpretations were made.
Most important among the benefits of the contract are the improved arbitration machinery, increased vacation pay, wage increases averaging 4.8 cents per hour, differential pay for second and third shift, better provisions governing transfer between departments, the checkoff of union dues and maintenance of membership.
