Variety.
The dance was o'er, each gallant bow'd
To count his partner fair,
And to a seat from 'mong the crowd,
Led her with tender care.
Then handsomest maid was cooling ire
From victims of various type:
Cider, fruits, and so forth, in a trice
For each sweet girl to choose.
I pressed Maria's hand, and said,
By Jove, what will you take?
Sherbet, ices, or lemonade,
Or jelly with a cake?
O! alas perhaps, some stranger
What shall I order in?
The deuce take all such trash, said she,
I'll take a glass of gin!
The dance was o'er, each gallant bow'd
To count his partner fair,
And to a seat from 'mong the crowd,
Led her with tender care.
Then handsomest maid was cooling ire
From victims of various type:
