Full Text

It is disheartening for a man who has preached the gospel for twenty-three years, and has spent his life trying to make men better and happier, for $700 a year, to read that Levy will get $500 a week for blowing a cornet at Manhattan beach. -E.c.

A man who can preach as well as Levy can play is never obliged to work for $700 a year. Any man who can do something well invariably commands a good price for it. Most men who get $700 a year for preaching would not hesitate to embrace some other calling did they not fear that they would not be able after the change to earn even $700.
