MONTPELIER, (VT.) OCT. 14
The votes for members of the next Congress from the state of VERMONT have been officially canvassed, and the following gentlemen are declared elected:-
Mark Richards, Charles Rich, Samuel C. Crafts, Orsamus C. Merrill, Ezra Meech, and William Strong. The two latter are elected in the places of Mr. Allen and Mr. Hunter, who declined a re-election.
We trust our fellow citizens will not neglect the opportunity they now have, and perhaps the only one they ever will have, to accomplish a Turnpike Road from this city to Rockville, or Montgomery court-house. This day the Subscription book, under the late law of Maryland, closes. The subscription is still deficient; and we once more admonish every friend to the place-all who are interested, either in the city or in the neighboring country—to come forward with their countenance and support. The book is open at Mr. Davis's tavern. Besides the indirect and infinitely important advantages justly to be anticipated from this operation, the stock itself, we have no doubt, will yield lucratively in its dividends. All who, in addition to their participation in the general interest of the city, feel a particular interest in the promotion of this object, are invited to meet at Davis's Hotel, at 5 o'clock p. m. this day.
