Full Text

Some six weeks ago a Piute Indian was killed near Hot Creek by another Indian who is regarded as a very bad man by the tribe. The murderer escaped but was tracked by the friends of the murdered Indian until they captured him at Ruby Hill. They tied their prisoner with ropes and started out toward the Tybo road when they were stopped by Marion Farrell and Charlie Moore, who inquired what they were doing. The Indians told them that the prisoner had killed a man and they were going to take him into the hills and burn him. Messrs. Moore and Farrell took the prisoner from the Indians and brought him down to jail, where he was locked up until the affair can be investigated. The other Indians have congregated around the jail and will keep a strict watch to see that the murderer is not allowed to go without their knowledge. They are determined to avenge the death of their friend and any interference on the part of the whites will only prolong the life of the murderer for a time. This is probably the precedent on which Bodie acted in the Daly case.
