MELANCHOLY:
-Died, at Norfolk, on Wednesday, the 15th current, of a rapid consumption, that amiable young creature, Miss Commercial Register. She was only in the 14th number of her life, and in the fifth week of her age: Meriwether had collected all the subscription money, which was tangible. He then set out for Richmond: and left his unlucky subscribers to do their best, and their worst. Meriwether had probably collected some hundreds of dollars: by subscription. He packed them up, and set out for Richmond to meet the city sergeant, or perhaps the city constables: and so, Messrs. subscribers may whistle for the balance: This affair is so very like one of Jemmy Lyon's manoeuvres, that one would almost suspect Meriwether of having stolen the scheme from him. As a complete swindler, Jemmy might have had room in the Recorder a long time ago. But it is presumed that he will not, without serious reflection, present his nose, another time, in Richmond. If he shall show his precious person at this office, where Jemmy has a pair of his creditors, that distinguished Republican shall retreat much faster than he advanced.
