Kingston, Jam. Feb. 18

The plundering of his majesty's sloop Martin, lately wrecked on the south coast of Ireland, is thus related on the authority of the officers: As soon as the ship got on shore, the country people assembled in great numbers, and the work of plunder began. A person standing by, who seemed to have some influence, advised captain Mitchell to retire to an adjoining house with his officers and crew, otherwise they would certainly be all murdered; this he declined, being determined to protect the property to the last. In this attempt Mr. Turner (the first lieutenant) was knocked down—one fellow took up a large stone, and threatened to murder captain Mitchell if he did not retire, exclaimed, "You damned rascal, have you not saved your life, is not that enough for you?" In short, they were overpowered, and every thing that was got on shore from the wreck was carried off by force, until the police, with lieutenant Wilson and a party of the 92d arrived—they were not uncalled for, as you state—they were sent express for by captain Mitchell, who declares it to be his opinion, that if it had not been for them he and the greater part of his crew would have been torn to pieces. Mr. Blake (2d lieutenant) got on shore with only his shirt, flannel waistcoat, and trowsers; he got into a house, where he stripped, got into bed, and requested his things might be dried for him, but he never saw them more, and was obliged to lie in bed naked until he got a supply of clothing from Limerick.
