To date over 140 people have been arrested on a charge of high treason. The information described the nature of the arrests, and the hardship they have brought to many women and their families.
One example is that of Mrs. Dorothy Shanley, who has three children under ten years. She and her husband were arrested at the same time taken to Johannesburg by plane without being able to make proper arrangements for their children. Others were taken from their beds in the early hours of the morning.
The Women's International Democratic Federation calls on women everywhere to express their solidarity and sympathy with the women of South Africa in their courageous struggles for the right to a decent life for themselves and their children, and for peace. Telegrams of protest should be sent to Prime Minister Strijdom and the High Commissioner at the addresses already quoted.
