Full Text

A Very Sad Accident.—On Tuesday evening last, on the farm of Francis E. Brooke, Esq., near this place, there occurred a sadly painful casualty. It seems that young Mr. Robert Brooke, of Richmond city, who was on a visit to his relatives and Mr. Thomas Dickinson, a son of our esteemed fellow-citizen, Wm. I. Dickinson, Esq., had been out gunning together, and when returning Mr. Brooke proposed to throw, and in some way instructed Mr. Dickinson in the bayonet exercise, and was thus engaged, when the hammer of his gun, hanging in some part of his coat, caused an instantaneous discharge of the piece, the load of which penetrated the right temple of Mr. D. Mr. D. was attended by the best of medical aid, but all to no purpose, for after some five or six hours he expired calmly and peacefully.—Fred. Recorder.
